Jeremiah Allison: Former Student and Valedictorian

Formerly a student of Sherlett's, Jeremiah graduated from Dorsey High School as Valedictorian in 2012 and currently attends Washington State University.

Markesha Scott: Police Officer and Former Athlete

There are so many great words to describe Mrs. Newbill. She is a great leader, friend, teacher, coach and role model. She has taught me so much about life and perseverance. She was my biggest supporter when I didn't even believe in myself. She has impacted my life in so many ways and it is an honor to know her. If it wasn't for her leadership and support I don't know where I would be. She helped me to see life in a different way. A way that I can't even explain. She took me under her wing with no questions asked and guided me in the right direction. She helped me accomplish goals that, as a child, I thought would never come true. I am now 24 years old, with my college degree in Criminal justice, and a police officer for Atlanta Police Department. Once again, I would like to thank Mrs. Newbill for excellent leadership and support.

Johnathan "Jetski" Franklin: NFL Player and Former Student

Formerly a student of Sherlett's at Dorsey High School, Johnathan is now a running back for the Green Bay Packers. He graduated from Dorsey in 1998 and went on to play college football for UCLA. In 2013, he was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

Arielle White: Former Student and Athlete

Sherlett Hendy Newbill has impacted my life tremendously. She possesses all of the qualities of a true role model. She has affected me in a way that makes me want to be better and do better, each and every day. She takes great leadership on the issues that she believes in which has taught me to do the same as well. She has always taught me to never set limits on what I could do, and to always strive for greatness. Mrs. Newbill is very honest, trusting, and most of all, open minded. She has helped my personal growth, and still to this day, I continue to learn from her. Sherlett is a great coach, teacher, mentor and most of all an excellent role model, and there is no better person to look up to than her.

Erica Maitland: Former Student and Athlete

I was very fortunate to be coached in girls basketball by Sherlett Hendy all four years of my high school career. I'm even more privileged and honored to have known her as a friend for over ten years.

She is someone who genuinely loves and cares about people. But, most importantly, what I value most about her is how she lives by example and with great integrity.

Dorretha Bennem: Digital Production Supervisor

Sherlett is a mentor and exemplifies integrity and hard work. Both of my parents were teachers and I understand, from their perspective, how difficult it can be to hold out faith that out school system can work. Sherlett has the passion and commitment to see the job through for as long as it will take. Working with her on the campaign has given me renewed insight into her passion for not just children, but progress. I see first-hand how her fellow teachers support her, her students love and root for her, and parents gravitate to her passion for their children. She is without a doubt the best candidate for the job.
